The KZ4AT is a single-section locomotive with asynchronous traction motors, a Bo'Bo' axle arrangement and an axle-load of 21.5 tonnes. Its top service speed is 200 km/h.
The design of the KZ4AT is essentially similar to that of the KZ8A, both types having the maximum number of components in common.
The locomotive is designed for use in all possible climatic conditions experienced on the 1,520 mm gauge network. It possesses all the advantage of latest generation electric locomotives, having environmentally friendly operational characteristics, a high level of reliability, and economical maintenance characteristics. It also offers a comfortable working environment for the locomotive crew.
Like the KZ8A, the KZ4AT is designed for multiple operation, with just one cab being occupied.
